Best things to do in Orlando in the winter
The air might be getting a little chillier, but the adventures in Florida are just heating up!
The City Beautiful is known for great weather year-round. In fact, the average high in Orlando in December is in the mid-70s, with the average low only in the mid-50s. The summer rains have passed, and it’s cool enough to really get outside and explore.
Unlike the rest of the country, winter in Florida might be the best time to take advantage of all of the things there are to do! Whether you want something outdoors or in this winter season, Orlando won’t disappoint. Here’s a list of some of our favorite things to do in Orlando in the winter.
Catch some rays
Like we said, the winter is still beautiful in Florida! While we native Floridians might shy away from actually getting in the pool or ocean in the winter, you can still soak up plenty of rays, play in the sand, or take in the views. And Orlando is just a short drive to many beaches. Head east to Daytona, New Smyrna or Cocoa beaches or head west to hit the gorgeous Gulf.
Hit the theme parks
Orlando is fortunate to be home to world-famous theme parks. It’s part of why so many people make the trip to visit! Whether you want to spend the day with the mouse or Harry Potter, the cooler winter weather makes December or January a great time to explore comfortably.
Visit the great outdoors
From Lake Eola right in the heart of Orlando to Wekiwa Springs or Blue Springs state parks just north, Central Florida is home to some of the best parks. Paddle in a swan boat, canoe down the Wekiva River or take a hike to enjoy some of Florida’s natural side.
Hit the lanes or the theater
On the rare days Orlando gets too chilly for an outdoor adventure, you can still have plenty of fun. Try a bowling alley (there are some upscale, fun options!) or grab some popcorn and catch the latest blockbuster. You could even see what shows are taking the stage at some of the biggest venues in town, like the Dr. Phillips Center.
